What is the Rose Path? A Sacred Feminine Way of Being
What is the Rose Path, and how does it relate to spiritual growth?
The Rose Path is a spiritual journey that weaves together the wisdom, beauty, and power of the Divine Feminine. It’s a path that invites us to deepen our connection to ourselves, nature, and the spiritual mysteries embodied in the symbol of the rose. Rooted in ancient traditions and priestess lineages, the Rose Path calls us to walk a sacred way of life, honoring cycles of growth, transformation, and rebirth.
The Rose as a Symbol of the Divine Feminine
The rose has long been revered as a symbol of the sacred feminine. Its delicate petals, vibrant colors, and sweet fragrance are a reflection of beauty, love, and grace, while its thorns remind us of the need for boundaries and protection. Throughout history, the rose has been associated with goddesses and divine figures like Isis, Hathor, Mother Mary, and Mary Magdalene—priestesses who embody wisdom, strength, and compassion.
Walking the Rose Path means embodying the qualities that the rose represents. Just as a rose grows through different stages, we too experience our own evolution as we move through life’s transitions. The Rose Path invites us to nurture our personal growth, heal old wounds, and step into our authentic power.
How can following the Rose Path help connect me with divine feminine energy?
The rose, in its essence embodies the divine feminine. It is soft and delicate, yet fierce and protective. The rose draws nourishment from the Earth, knows when to blossom, and when to go dormant for winter.
How is the Rose Path related to priestess work and feminine spirituality?
The Rose Path and the Priestess Lineage
The Rose Path has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, particularly those connected to the priestess lineages of Egypt and the Middle East. These lineages honored the sacred feminine and practiced rituals that aligned with the cycles of nature and the cosmos. Goddesses such as Isis, Hathor, and Inanna, as well as figures like Mary Magdalene, are central to this lineage, each offering their own teachings on healing, transformation, and feminine power.
One of the most profound connections between the rose and the divine is the story of Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. It is said that as they stood at the foot of the cross during Jesus’ crucifixion, their tears fell to the Earth, and from the soil, roses began to grow. This story reflects the powerful themes of grief, love, and rebirth that are central to the Rose Path.
How does the Rose Path use the symbolism of the rose in personal transformation? and What are the core teachings or principles of the Rose Path tradition?
Key Themes of the Rose Path
The Rose Path guides us through different stages of growth, each offering valuable lessons for our spiritual and personal evolution. These stages mirror the natural phases of a rose’s life—from its roots to its full bloom.
1. The Roots: Nourishing Your Soul
The journey begins with the roots, which represent the foundation of your spiritual practice and personal nourishment. Just as a rose draws sustenance from the Earth, you too must nourish yourself with what uplifts and strengthens your spirit.
What are the practices that ground you?
How do you nurture your mind, body, and spirit?
Nourishment can come from meditation, healthy relationships, wholesome food, or creative expression. The key is to find what feeds your soul and allows you to flourish.
2. The Thorns: Establishing Boundaries
One of the essential aspects of walking the Rose Path is learning how to set healthy boundaries. The thorns of the rose protect it from harm, just as boundaries protect your energy and well-being. As you move through life, it’s crucial to honor your limits and learn when to say no.
Where in your life do you need stronger boundaries?
How can you protect your energy without closing off your heart?
Establishing clear boundaries allows you to stay grounded and focused on your growth while ensuring you don’t deplete yourself by over-giving.
3. The Bud: Tapping Into Your Potential
The rosebud symbolizes potential and the early stages of creation. On the Rose Path, this is the phase where you tap into your inner wisdom and begin to cultivate your gifts. Just as the rosebud holds the promise of a future bloom, you too hold untapped potential that is waiting to blossom.
This stage is about embracing creativity, setting intentions, and nurturing the parts of yourself that are ready to grow. It’s also a reminder to be patient with your process. The rose does not rush to bloom—it opens in its own time.
4. The Bloom: Embodying Your Full Power
When the rose finally blooms, it is in its full expression of beauty. Similarly, the Rose Path invites you to step fully into your power and embrace your role as a leader, healer, or teacher. This is the phase where you are called to be seen, to share your gifts with the world, and to be of service to others.
What gifts are you ready to share with the world?
How can you lead from a place of love and authenticity?
The bloom of the rose teaches us that there is no need to fear being seen or heard. Your voice, your mission, and your presence are needed in the world.
5. Death and Rebirth: Embracing the Cycles of Life
Just as the rose eventually wilts and fades, we too experience cycles of death and rebirth on our spiritual journey. This phase of the Rose Path is about letting go of old patterns, beliefs, or ways of being that no longer serve you. It’s about embracing change and allowing yourself to be reborn into a new chapter of life.
The story of the goddess Inanna, who descended into the underworld to face her shadows and be reborn, is a powerful metaphor for this phase. The Rose Path teaches us that death is not an end but a necessary part of the process of transformation.

The Roots of the Rose Path: Mary Magdalene and the Essene Tradition
The journey of the Rose Path begins in the deserts of Israel, where Mary Magdalene is believed to have been initiated into the Essene tradition, a Jewish sect committed to spiritual purity and divine connection. The Essenes practiced deep meditation, healing rites, and esoteric teachings, which some historians believe influenced early Christian thought. Mary Magdalene’s association with the Rose Path begins here, as she became one of the few women entrusted with carrying forth the hidden teachings of love, forgiveness, and divine feminine energy.

The Egyptian Influence: Temple Wisdom
The Rose Path’s teachings were further shaped by the Therapeutae, a mystical sect in Egypt that some believe included Mary Magdalene as an initiate. The Therapeutae practiced healing through prayer, meditation, and sacred geometry, emphasizing the connection between body, mind, and spirit. Their work is considered one of the earliest influences on what would become the Rose Path, emphasizing the balance between divine masculine and feminine energies.

After the crucifixion of Jesus, Mary Magdalene is said to have traveled to the South of France, carrying with her the sacred teachings of love and wisdom she had acquired. In Provence, she continued her work, gathering a following and initiating others into the mystical teachings she embodied. Legends say she sought refuge in the caves of Saint-Baume, where she prayed and meditated for years, and later founded a spiritual community.

The Rose Path and the Celtic Mysteries: Fleeing to Britain
As political and religious tensions grew in France, the guardians of the Rose Path teachings sought refuge in Britain, where Celtic traditions and Druidic wisdom aligned with their teachings. Here, the Rose Path intertwined with the Arthurian legends, becoming known as the “Mysteries of Avalon.” Figures like Morgaine (Morgan le Fay) and King Arthur were said to have preserved this sacred knowledge in the mystical isle of Avalon, a realm shrouded in mist where feminine wisdom was revered.

The Rosicrucian Influence and Shakespeare’s Legacy
During the Renaissance, the Rose Path teachings were integrated into secret societies such as the Rosicrucians, who sought to preserve esoteric wisdom under the guise of art and literature. The works of Shakespeare, many believe, contain encoded messages and allegories of the Rose Path, particularly in his depictions of forbidden love, alchemical symbolism, and divine feminine archetypes. The Rosicrucians emphasized the transformative nature of love and beauty—core elements of the Rose Path.

As the Rose Path teachings migrated further into the British Isles, Scotland became a safe haven for practitioners. Roslin Chapel, with its intricate carvings and symbols, is believed to hold hidden codes of the Rose Path and serves as a repository of this ancient wisdom. The chapel’s famous “Apprentice Pillar” is adorned with roses, vines, and sacred geometry, thought to encode the secrets of divine union and feminine empowerment.

Miracle: In 1446, during the chapel’s consecration, a light anomaly resembling a rose appeared at the base of the Apprentice Pillar, interpreted as a blessing on the teachings preserved there.
The Mists of Avalon: The Hiding of the Rose Path
The Rose Path teachings survived through myths, particularly in the legend of The Mists of Avalon, which portrays the struggle to preserve feminine wisdom amid rising patriarchal forces. As Christianity spread, the teachings of the Rose Path went underground, becoming stories and symbols shrouded in mystery. The image of Avalon disappearing into the mists reflects the secrecy and protection placed around these teachings, safeguarding them from suppression.

In today’s world, the Rose Path represents the journey of self-discovery, spiritual awakening, and the reclaiming of feminine power. Many women who feel called to the Priestess Rose Path identify with priestess or “witch wounds”. These are wounds of persecution, being seen and sharing your voice. It can feel terrifying to do these things in modern times if there is a past life connection to being a priestess or witch. Many women who experienced trauma in past lives for being magical subconsciously or consciously vowed to never be seen in that magic again.
The Rose path is one of protection and boundaries, creating spaces of safety with other women to be seen to heal these ancient wounds. I work with women 1:1 and in groups to heal priestess and witch wounds on the Priestess path.
